I can’t tell if I hear vales eating pistons or not.

That kinda shattering sound immediately following the belt snap. Sure sounded expensive.

wouldnt this only be the case for an interference engine? which i’m not sure this is?

Timing belt covers were invented for a reason.

Thats my thinking, I’m too lazy to look up if the 4g63 is an interference engine

the 4g62 is non-interference, all other versions are valve-eaters. /source google

Why do you think chains don’t break?

There aren’t a whole lot of belt covers designed to be compatible with adjustable cam sprockets, so tuned Evos with such modifications don’t run them.

not saying they don’t. but can you argue that they’re as likely to break as a belt? someone else may have the actual data.

I have once witnessed a timing gear getting loose from a crankshaft. The contact between valves and pistons made a really sad sound.

The data from the Acura dealer I wrench at says zero belt failure in the past year but three chains in the past month

no kidding. so is the chain > belt theory just myth? anything specific about those chains?
i’m going to be buying my first car with a timing belt in a few weeks, and it has an interference engine, so i’m a little hyperaware.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell, was this a tuning endeavor or just a pull for the people? Once you’re tuned most if not all evos/dsms etc. put the timing cover back on. If they really want to show off those sweet gears they just get a clear Zaklee timing cover.

Even if it were a non-interference engine, big cams laugh at your “non-interference” motors and promptly turn them into interference models :)
